In their desire for a new stadium AC Milan and Inter Milan are united to try to climb back to the world football summit.
The Cathedral
Architecture and architecture company Populous has developed designs for a new stadium dubbed ‘The Cathedral,’ influenced by Galleria Vittorio Emanuel II and the Duomo di Milano.
The designers pledge that it will be the most sustainable stadium in Europe” with a “intimate” seat arrangement that strives to get fans as close to action as possible.
The size of the current stadium would be much lower than the present stadium-about 60,000 seats instead of 75,000-with clubs realizing that average attendance has declined.
Of course, new stadiums are designed in such a way that soccer fans might spend a lot of their day in the venues, with supermarkets and grocery outlets implicit in the architecture.
The field will be covered by 22 acres of “green space” and there will be a municipal park area, with an open-air gym.
Populous has been central to the construction of a number of spectacular stadiums in recent years, including Wembley Stadium, Emirates Stadium and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
They were also associated with the popular soccer city in Johannesburg and Allianz Stadium, home to the Minnesota United Major League Soccer team.
The Rings of Milan
The reimagined San siro – Nuovo Stadio Milano design proposal from Manica is built around the concept of two interrelated rings – representing AC Milan and Inter.
Like Populous’s architecture, the interior of the stadium will put the spectators closer to the pitch, providing a more intimate environment, whilst the external panels of the stadium will display the faces of more than 16,000 fans.
The two teams’ curves will be lit in their respective colors-red for AC Milan and blue for Inter-and the stadium will also be lit exclusively in red or blue when only one of the teams plays-similar to the Allianz Arena in Munich.
Particular attention will also be paid to the area, where the essence of the Milano football heritage in San Siro is transformed into a broader sports and entertainment complex.
Manica (when working for Populous) was involved in the construction work of Wembley Stadium and was involved in the Current Camp Nou project in Barcelona, as well as Allegiant Stadium-the home of Las Vegas Raiders. The organization also took part in the new Inter Miami stadium in Florida and the new Cagliari stadium in Sardinia.
